No Marriage is Perfect, and That’s Okay | Downtown Southlake, TX

No Marriage is Perfect, and That’s Okay

When we scroll through photos on Instagram or flip through family albums, it’s easy to assume everyone’s lives and relationships are picture-perfect. But the truth is, no marriage is perfect. Sometimes, those cracks or challenges show through even during a photoshoot—and that’s okay. In fact, it’s real life.

Recently, I had the privilege of photographing my daughter, Chynjah, and her family during their holiday session. Before sharing this, I asked her if she was okay with me using her session for a specific blog talking to my brides and married couples. She said yes, and we both agreed on one thing: people need to know it’s okay to not be okay.

Marriage is about sticking it out, even in the messy, chaotic moments—like when your two boys are screaming, your toddler doesn’t want to be touched, and you and your spouse aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye. But you know what? Even in those moments, it’s important to pray for your spouse, show up, and be present in the moment.

If you look closely, you can see my son-in-love was quite agitated with my daughter. But because he loves her so much, he still stuck it out. While some may have said they should reshoot, I am the first person to tell you that tomorrow isn’t promised. Be present for TODAY!

Towards the end of the shoot, you can see my daughter’s fake smile. By this time, she was a little perturbed because Robert was kind of rushing us. She was trying to be romantic and fun, but he was still quite agitated. So her smile wasn’t her normal, jolly model smile.

The Bible reminds us of the weight of our vows in Ecclesiastes 5:4-5: “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.” Marriage vows are a promise to love each other through thick and thin—and sometimes, that "thin" shows up during a holiday photo session.

Looking back, those imperfect moments become part of the story. One day, you may see your photos and think, “Remember when the boys wouldn’t stop yelling?” or “I was so frustrated that day, but you still showed me grace and love.” The challenges in those moments don’t last forever. As Psalm 30:5 says, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”

This session was captured in beautiful downtown Southlake, Texas. Chynjah looked stunning in a Gianni Bini gown paired with the most gorgeous velvet printed shoes. Her hair and makeup, done by the fabulous Chynjah herself (a.k.a. DelainArtistry on Instagram), tied everything together beautifully.

The photos turned out amazing, but more than that, they tell a real story—one of love, perseverance, and grace. Remember, it’s okay to have hard days. It’s okay to not feel perfect. What matters is continuing to pray, to love, and to show up for one another. That’s what makes a marriage beautiful.

#PHOTOBOMB LOL... DID YOU CATCH THE LADY IN THE BACK OF THEIR DIP??? Normally I would have ditched that photo, but it was toooo funny not to add to their gallery!
