Unveiling Success: Rae De Lain's Journey in the Shoot + Share Contest 2022

Have you ever stumbled upon a contest where the spotlight isn't on the photographer but solely on the photos? The Shoot + Share Contest 2022 is precisely that - an extraordinary event where the audience, not judges, decides the winners. Join me as I share my journey into this unique contest and the surprising outcomes that unfolded.

Back in 2019, when I first heard about the Shoot + Share Contest, I hesitated to submit my work. The idea of putting my creations up for scrutiny was daunting, and I convinced myself that my photos hadn't reached their peak yet. Every year, I told myself, "Maybe next time, when my work matches up to the greats."

Taking the Plunge....Finally, in 2022, with a little encouragement from my friendgirls, I decided to take the plunge. I selected a handful of images, predominantly featuring seniors, my specialty. While seniors hold a special place in my portfolio, I also submitted entries across various categories. The nervous anticipation of the results began.

The Unexpected.....Despite submitting my images, I didn't stick around to check the results. It's possible fear kicked in, or I simply forgot. I'm inclined to believe it's a bit of both. A year later, while browsing a blog post from a photographer I admire, I noticed her contest submissions. Curiosity led me to check if any of my images had made the cut, and to my astonishment, they did. Though I didn't take home the grand prize, securing any victory meant a lot as a first-time participant in The Shoot + Share photography contest.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude to everyone who took the time to vote for my images. Your support means the world to me. Special thanks for recognizing the sentimental value behind some of these photos, especially those featuring my daughter on her wedding day.

The Shoot + Share Contest 2022 has been an incredible journey of self-discovery, breaking free from self-imposed limitations, and embracing the unpredictability of success. As I reflect on these results, I'm motivated to continue pushing the boundaries of my creativity. To all aspiring photographers, remember, sometimes, taking that leap of faith can lead to unimaginable success.
